- Litmus neutral paper has the ability to turn both red or blue in colour depending on whether the solution being tested is acidic (﹤pH 7) or basic (﹥pH 7)
- Litmus red paper will turn blue in colour when placed in basic solutions (﹥pH 7), if the solution is acidic, the paper will remain red
